SERIOUS questions have to be answered about why so many schoolchildren in Glasgow are excluded from education.

The number removed because of assaults, whether physical or verbal, is shockingly and unacceptably high.

Pupils who cause trouble can come from any background, wealthy or poor, so blame cannot be placed on any one group.

But wherever it lies it has to be tackled without delay.

No teacher or pupil must ever turn up for class fearing they could be a victim of assault.

There will always be unruly pupils and bad teachers but the range of assaults and the numbers involved are worryingly high.

They have to be tackled both by the education authorities and the Executive's new Education Secretary, Fiona Hyslop.

The Labour-LibDem Executive apparently didn't find the answer and was rightly criticised. Now Ms Hyslop must pass the test. Coolest place for hottest curries

IT takes the breath away that Glasgow is no longer the UK's curry capital.

But that's clearly a case of questionable taste on the part of the judges.

Glasgow has been the hottest location for discerning diners for decades with a range of fantastic flavours.

Its curry-houses cater for every taste and every pocket.

Well done Leicester for taking the title but, be warned, your reign will be short-lived.

When it comes to delivering the hot stuff, Glasgow will be back next year as the coolest place in the country for the hottest curries.
