SCOTLAND had a dramatic triples win in the individual British

championships at Northfield yesterday with Hawick Wilton's Joan Kyle,

Marjory Frost, and Irene Bennett coming from behind to beat Maureen

Mallon's Lisnagarvey side 15-14.

In a superb final, the Scots appeared to have lost their chance when a

penultimate end double took Ireland into a 14-11 lead, but with the

Irish looking decidedly nervy on the last end, the Scots stepped in and

punished them.

With just skip Bennett's final bowl to come, Scotland lay a definite

three shots with a possible fourth. Bennett, leaving nothing to chance,

drew the first shot to make certain of the 4 the Scots needed for the

title.

In the fours final, Agnes Blackmore's Ardrossan rink of Jean Gillies,

Nan Cramb, and Isobel Dockrell lost 26-6 to the Welsh champions skipped

by Rita Jones.

Scottish singles hopes ended when Port Gordon's Barbara Green was

defeated 25-19 by Julie Davies, of Wales.

The title went to defending champion Phillis Nolan, from Blackrock in

Dublin, who defeated Davies 25-4.

Welsh mother and daughter combination Eileen Thomas and Linda Evans

won the pairs' title when they defeated England's Joyce Morgan and June

Larter 27-15. Results:
