* THE Barbarians, fielding nine internationals scored nine tries to

defeat the East Midlands 55-25 in the annual ''Mobbs Match'' at

Northampton yesterday.

The county side, unable to field any of Northampton's regular

first-team members because they are being rested prior to an important

league match on Saturday, had no answer to the pace and skill of the

Baa-baas.

The Barbarians scored after four minutes with a try from Blackrock

centre Martin Ridge, who went on Ireland's tour to New Zealand in 1992.

He scored a second try towards the end, and there also were two tries

apiece for Bristol flanker Derek Eves and Scotland winger Derek Stark.

Full-back Michael Dods, a replacement for Scotland at the weekend,

scored one try and converted five. The other tries came from centre

Maurice Field and winger Niall Woods.

Only briefly did the East Midlands threaten, although they scored

tries through full back Cameron Glanvill, centre Rob MacNaughton, and

flankers Phil Pask and Paul Alston.

Youth rugby in England benefited to the tune of #2700, with #300 being

donated for each try the Barbarians scored.
