Raith Rovers v

Greenock Morton

RAITH Rovers manager Jimmy Nicholl might not want to admit it, but the best his team can now achieve is second place behind Dundee and a possible spot in the play-offs should that occur.

Today's visitors are Greenock Morton and Nicholl knows they will prove difficult opponents as they have already beaten Rovers 3-1 at Cappielow and drawn 0-0 in Kirkcaldy during the course of this season.

Nicholl said: ''Although Morton beat us easily at their own ground, I am confident there will not be a repeat and a win today will consolidate our second place in the table.

''Dundee look to have won the league but they still have three very difficult games in the next couple of weeks and we can only hope that other teams can do us a favour by beating them to keep us in with a chance.

''However, we still have a lot of hard work to do and that means we must win all of our remaining games if we are to have any chance of catching Dundee.''

Rovers will be without the suspended John Miller who is in the middle of a four-match ban and also Marvin Andrews, who was sent off last week.

On the plus side, Lee Dair, Craig McEwan, and Derek McGill are all available again after shaking off knocks while new signings Jason Blunt (on loan) and Steven Tosh are both likely to feature at some stage.

Both players have impressed Nicholl since joining on Tuesday from Leeds and St Johnstone respectively.

Kevin Fotheringham is recalled to Rovers' defence following Andrews dismissal last week.

Another on-loan player, Andy Walker, came in for some praise from the manager despite only having found the net twice, both from the penalty spot, since he joined up at Stark's Park.

Nicholl said: ''Andy has been quietly effective since he arrived, and I'm pleased with the overall contribution he has made to the team.

''The only thing that dis-appoints me a little is that I would like to see him finish off the good work he has done by scoring a few goals.''

Morton manager Billy Stark has a couple of injury doubts. Ross Matheson has a hip strain and is very doubtful while Craig McPherson (groin injury) and Paul Blair (leg strain) both will be given fitness tests this morning.

BOOKIES' VIEW: Raith Rovers - 8-13, Morton - 9-2, draw 9-4.
