LOGS placed too close to a wood-burning stove led to fire crews being sent to West Huntspill this afternoon (March 31).
The fire service was called to reports of smoke within a property in Old Pawlett Road at 1.10pm.
Two appliances were sent from Burnham and Bridgwater, together with a water carrier from Bridgwater.
Before the fire service arrived, the fire service control room received another call from the premises, confirming a pile of logs close to the log burner had overheated, creating the smoke.
One crew was requested to still proceed for an inspection only, and remaining crews were returned back to the station.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters confirmed the fire was out and crews confirmed the cause to be logs placed on the outside of the wood burning stove, which had been left to dry out.
Fire safety advice was given to the occupiers and duty of care was left with them.
