AN INDIAN restaurant in Weymouth will be doing its bit for Children in Need this year by hosting a charity dinner.

The Balti House, on Commercial Road, will be holding the evening on Friday, November 20, when 50 per cent of the money raised will go towards the cause.

There will be a special menu for the evening but the regular menu will also be available if preferred.

Owner Shalim Abdul said: “I’ve been thinking about doing something like this for a very long time.

“I have been doing a lot in Bangladesh for poor people there, and particularly the children and I just wanted to do something for the children in this country.

“I kept thinking of how I could help and I thought of this charity dinner which seemed like a good idea.

“I hope lots of people turn up because I really want to make a positive difference this year.”

The event will take place from 5.50pm until midnight.

It was one of the first events in south and west Dorset to be lined up for Children in Need, which takes place across the country on Friday, November 20.

The Weymouth Sea Life Park is hosting the south west extravaganza as fundraisers hope to make this year’s event one of the best so far in the area.

The attraction has been selected to host the BBC’s coverage of fundraising from the region and will feature live link-ups with the BBC Television Centre in London.

Last year more than £1,500 was raised by people in Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester for the cause.

Youngsters from Bincombe Valley School in Weymouth turned back the clock for an Abba dance festival.

Staff and pupils at Sunny Days nursery in Glendinning Avenue donned fancy dress with a spots and stripes theme.

Other fundraisers included Chuckles Nursery, scouts, Chipmunks Day Nursery, St John’s Nursery, Dorchester Middle School, Dorset Cereals and Westhaven Pre-School.
