Charlton head coach Guy Luzon still has plenty of confidence in his side even after the Addicks’ disappointing 3-0 defeat to Blackburn at Ewood Park.

Despite creating chances, Charlton keeper Nick Pope was called into action to deny Jordan Rhodes on two separate occasion in the first half before the Scotland international opened the scoring for the hosts seconds before half-time.

Rovers then extended their lead after 75 minutes through Rhodes again, who stole in ahead of Alou Diarra to poke the ball past Pope, and Blackburn made it three 10 minutes later through substitute Tom Lawrence.

While the Addicks were largely frustrating in their trip to Lancashire, Luzon remained hopeful his side have enough quality to recover from the defeat.

“It’s not an easy moment for us because I thought we gave everything in the first half and created enough opportunities to score the first goal,” said the Israeli.

“We know how important the first goal is in this division and it was difficult for us to concede in the last minute of the first-half.

“We tried again in the second-half but Blackburn scored the second just when we tried to create some chances ourselves.

“But in life and football, you need to pass this kind of obstacle and I continue to believe that we have a good team and good players and I believe in them.”

Charlton’s best opportunity came through Tony Watt, but the forward was unable to adjust his feet quick enough when presented with the ball by Jordan Cousins.

However, Luzon took the chances created as a positive as the Addicks prepare to face Crystal Palace in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.

He said: “I will be worried when we don’t create chances - creating chances is a good sign.

“When we have the confidence back we will score goals and come back to win games, when your team doesn’t have any chances to score then you are in a bad situation.

“I felt our attitude was good and we had chances to score, of course it’s tough, but we don’t have time to give up.”

Mikhail Kennedy impressed in his first league fixture for the SE7 side and Charlton’s boss was pleased with his contributions in the match in place of the injured Simon Makienok.

“I thought Makhail did well,” said Luzon.

“I don’t judge the age of any of the players and he played well especially first half.

“Simon Makienok picked up the injury yesterday and was not 100 percent to play against Huddersfield and will take part when he is 100 percent ready again.”
