A SOUTHEND MP is being paid £500 a day for a second job with a finance firm based 250 miles away in Liverpool.

James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, is working one day a month as a strategic advisor for wealth management company Wilcocks and Associates.

The Tory, who was a banker before taking office in 2005, said: “I work up to a 65-hour week as an MP for Southend and this doesn’t impinge on my role at all.

“It fits around my role as an MP.

“My role as an MP for Southend and Rochford comes first.”

Mr Duddridge, who worked with Wilcocks and Associates director Martin Wilcocks at Barclays Investment Management, 15 years ago, gives advice on which products the firm should offer, how it should market itself and its relationship with other businesses.

Most of the work can be done over the phone or via e-mail, and the MP has only travelled to Liverpool twice since taking the role in March, both times during Parliamentary recesses
