A couple have raised £238 from a car boot sale to help kit out a family room at an Oxford hospital in memory of their son Finnley, who died earlier this year.

Luke and Gemma Froude, and work colleagues, got up at 5.30am for the Bodicote car boot on August 15.

They sold a host of donated items and put some pieces on auction website eBay raising a further £104.

Mr Froude’s employer Bibby Financial Services has pledged to double the amount the group raised.

Afterwards Mrs Froude, of Appleby Close, Banbury, said: “We’d like to thank the farm shop for letting all five cars involved in for a reduced price, everyone who donated items to sell and of course all the lovely people that brought items for Ssnap and general car boot items and also the people who just gave a contribution.”

Proceeds will be donated to the charity Support for Sick Newborn And their Parents, (Ssnap), to help buy furniture for a family room at the neonatal unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Finnley died at the hospital in June, aged 18 weeks, after being born prematurely.

Luke and Gemma will be back on the car boot beat this Sunday. The sale will take place at the field next to the Bodicote flyover from 8am.
