PLASTERER Jonathan Feltham has spoken about how he was almost killed by the Banbury thrill-seeking nurse Benjamin Geen.

Geen, 25, was sentenced on Wednesday of last week for killing two of his patients and almost killing 15 others at the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

The nurse injected his victims with drugs to worsen their condition, so he could enjoy the thrill of attempting to resuscitate them.

At Oxford Crown Court, Mr Justice Crane delivered 17 life sentences and told him he would not be due for parole for a minimum of 30 years. Now Mr Feltham, 25, who lives in Banbury, has told how he went to the Horton after suffering a bout of dizziness, and almost lost his life when Geen injected him. He said: "He could have killed me. I actually stopped breathing for several minutes. I was clinically dead. I was unconscious and helpless when he injected me. When I woke up, I was hooked up to breathing apparatus. The doctors said I was lucky to be alive." Mr Feltham explained how he passed out after attending the hospital's A&E department.

He was then taken to a cubicle where Staff Nurse Geen injected him with a huge dose of insulin and sedatives which he used to stop patients breathing. A medical team, led by Geen, then frantically revived him.

When Mr Feltham came round, he said he was "shocked" when staff told him what had happened and he was horrified when Geen was arrested a few weeks later. It emerged that he had been Geen's ninth victim in a month. The nurse struck 17 times in 64 days before he was caught.

Mr Feltham added: "The fact I thanked him for saving my life makes me feel very angry now."

He is now preparing to sue both the hospital and Geen following his ordeal.

An external review into the killer nurse's actions is being launched by top NHS managers. Thames Valley Health Authority called for independent clinical and managerial experts to examine the case.

TVHA chief executive Nick Relph said the investigation had been agreed following discussions with the Department of Health and the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Horton Hospital.
