A MAN said to have made a "lasting impact" on Banbury has been awarded the highest honour the town can give.

Jack Friswell OBE, pictured right, was made an Honorary Burgess of Banbury at a ceremony at the town hall last Thursday evening. Mr Friswell a successful businessman was a councillor, mayor, magistrate, and deputy lieutenant of Oxfordshire but he will be best remembered for his charity fundraising.

Mr Friswell, 86, received a commemorative medallion and certificate from this year's mayor, John Brooks.

The leader of Banbury Town Council, John Colegrave, said: "Jack has left a real mark on the town through his business, civic, and charitable work, and I am pleased he has been awarded our highest honour.

"His legacy will remain long after him, and his efforts have enriched the lives of us all."

Ill health has curtailed Mr Friswell's activities in recent months.
