A BLUEPRINT for transport in Northamptonshire over the next five years has been sent to county councillors and key transport agencies across the county.

The 260-page document, which took two years to prepare, is a guide to tackling congestion, cutting the number of road accidents, maintaining roads and paths, improving rights of way and public transport, and ensuring that transport systems keep up with growth in the county. Bob Seery, Northamptonshire County Council's executive member for highways and transport, said: "As a result of hard work by officers and positive input from the public, we now have a local transport plan which properly reflects the needs of the county.

"I am hopeful this will help attract the Government funding necessary to implement the plan's requirements.

"Arrangements have been made for ongoing monitoring of the implementation of the plan and any subsequent comments or suggestions from the people of Northamptonshire will be given very serious consideration as part of the process."

The plan can be seen on the council's website www.northamptonshire. gov.uk and at all public libraries in the county.
