PREPARATIONS are under way as Banbury gets ready to contest the Britain in Bloom national finals.

Last year the town was awarded a gold medal in the regional heats by the competition's judges - an achievement that meant automatic entry into the finals.

Cllr Nicholas Turner, chairman of the Banbury in Bloom working party, said: "To get to the national finals is a special achievement, especially in the 400th anniversary year of the town's charter. We can celebrate the anniversary by showing the town in all its splendour.

"Everyone behind the scenes will continue to give 100 per cent to make sure the town is in tip-top condition for the judging.

"We really want to push on all areas of the town, working closely with town council, Cherwell District Council, and our contractors, Continental Landscapes.

"We aim to impress the judges during their unannounced and announced visits.

"We urge everyone in Banbury to make that extra special effort during this celebration year."

Cllr Turner said that if residents or workers noticed any area of the town not in good condition, they should contact Banbury Town Council on 01295 250340.
