A BANBURY pop group has beaten off stiff competition from hundreds of other bands for the chance to break into the British music industry.

The Sirens Call has been selected to enter Pringles Unsung - a project that gives unsigned bands and solo artists the opportunity of having their music judged on-line by members of the public.

Band members are calling on townspeople to log on to the competition's website and vote for them.

The competition is fronted by music legend and singer with Echo and the Bunnymen Ian McCulloch, with the aim of discovering British talent.

Thousands of entries from all musical genres were received and The Sirens Call track was one selected for the competitions website.

The track is now live on www.pringlesunsung.com and is proving an instant hit with the public.

The entry that receives the most votes will win one of the most exclusive prizes in British music - the chance to perform at a private, live gig in London for the Pringles Unsung judges.

Alongside Ian McCulloch the panel will include ex-Island Records managing director Marc Marot, multiple Grammy and Brit award-winning producer Jonathan Quarmby, and leading industry journalist Paul Sexton.

A Pringles Unsung spokesman said: "The Sirens Call's track is one of the best we have had. The standard so far has been exceptionally high and we are extremely excited about breaking the next big band in British music. We hope that their hometown gets behind them and helps them realise their dream."
