Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares survived a tricky first-round encounter in the men’s doubles at the Australian Open.
The fifth seeds and 2016 champions found themselves a set down against Americans Frances Tiafoe and Donald Young at Melbourne Park.
But they fought back well and Murray eventually served out a 5-7 6-4 6-4 victory, to the delight of the raft of British supporters on Court 14.
It was a disappointing day for Britain in the women’s doubles, with Laura Robson and American Coco Vandeweghe losing 7-6 (7/3) 6-4 to 14th seeds Chan Hao-ching and Katarina Srebotnik, while Anna Smith and Naomi Broady were heavily beaten 6-2 6-1 by fourth seeds Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova.
