OXFORD RL suffered a second successive Kingstone Press League One Shield defeat as they were beaten 36-10 by Hunslet at Abingdon’s Tilsley Park.

Despite having a try disallowed early on for a forward pass, Matthew Nicholson was not to be denied a second time as he put the visitors in front on ten minutes.

Joseph Sanderson converted to make it 6-0.

Oxford responded well, forcing successive goal-line drop outs, before they were rewarded with Jordan Siddons’s try.

Harvey Burnett added the extras to level the contest at 6-6.

But it took Hunslet only 30 seconds to re-establish their lead, George Flanagan scoring under the posts and Sanderson converting.

The visitors were on fire and Cameron Leeming was the next to go over, Sanderson maintaining his 100 per cent record with the boot to make it 18-6.

Oxford’s James Cryer was sin-binned, but instead of falling further behind, they hit back to reduce the arrears to eight points.

Jordan Gill completed the first-half scoring to make it 18-10.

Twenty minutes of the second period passed until either side crossed again and it was Hunslet who opened up a 24-10 lead.

Nicholson scoring under the posts and Sanderson converting.

It was soon 30-10 as Liam Mackay broke free and dotted down.

Sanderson, once again, was accurate from the tee.

Jack Normington completed the scoring, finishing off a fine set of passes to dot down.

Sanderson made it six kicks out of six with the conversion.

Oxford pressed for a try, but their cause was not helped with eight minutes to go, when Lee Land was sent off for a late high tackle.

The Blues will hope to arrest their poor run of form, which includes eight defeats in a row during the regular season, when they travel to London Skolars on Saturday.
