OXFORD RL’s fine run in the Kingstone Press League 1 Cup came to an end when they lost 64-14 in their semi-final at Barrow Raiders.

The visitors opened the scoring on four minutes when Ryan Fieldhouse crossed. Lewis Charnock missed the goal attempt.

Oxford were quick to reply, Casey Canterbury diving over in the eighth minute, but they were unable to take the lead as Scott Fleming was off target with the kick.

It took Raiders just two minutes to hit back as Shane Toal combined with Fieldhouse to cross. Charnock added the extras to make it 10-4.

Oxford, though, levelled the match on 24 minutes when Jordan Gill went over. Scott Fleming was on target with the boot.

Barrow slowly got back into the game and Toal scored in the corner on 32 minutes, but Charnock was unable to convert.

It was soon 20-10 to the home side as substitute Brad Brennan ran through the Oxford defence to dive over. Charnock made no mistake in front of the posts.

There was still time for the visitors to reply before the break and Scott Fleming’s unconverted try reduced the arrears to six points.

However, that proved to be the last time Oxford added to their tally as Raiders dominated the second half.

Tom Walker went over for an unconverted try five minutes after the restart, before James Duerden pushed through the defence and touched down.

Charnock added the extras to make it 30-14.

Raiders crossed again on 54 minutes when Dan Abrams scored under the posts and Charnock, once again, made no mistake with the conversion attempt.

Charnock converted his own try, before Joe Bullock crossed to extend their advantage to 34 points.

They were not finished as Toal, Charnock and Bullock went over.

Charnock converted two of the tries to complete the scoring and end Oxford’s run.
