DAN Barnes scored a hat-trick of tries as Henley Hawks kept their promotion hopes alive when hammering Guernsey 60-28 at home.

The fly-half also kicked three conversions to claim 21 points in the National League 2 South fixture.

The victory keeps Hawks six points behind second-placed Canterbury who occupy the sole play-off spot.

Tries from Xavier Andre, Alex Bradley and Leo Webb saw Henley lead 19-0.

Owen Thomas converted his own score as Guernsey replied, but Henley made it 29-7 at half-time when Barnes and George Griffiths crossed.

Andre and Liam O’Neill went over as Hawks continued to dominate, before Matt Creber replied for the visitors, Thomas adding the extras.

Barnes crossed twice more for Henley, before O’Neill, who also kicked two conversions, scored his second try to make it 60-14.

The Raiders scored two late tries through Harry Baron, but Hawks were out of sight.

Chinnor were beaten 33-23 at home by Blackheath in National League 1.

Two Caolan Ryan penalties and a Craig Holland try helped the hosts lead 11-0.

Blackheath hit back through Harry Fry’s score before the break.

However, the visitors used a strengthening wind to their advantage in the second period, while the hosts lost Will Bordill to the sin bin.

Fry (2) and Henry Staff crossed, Leo Fielding kicking two conversions and a penalty to make it 27-11.

Chinnor hit back through Tom Jubb, Ryan converting, but two Fielding penalties put the result beyond doubt.

The hosts had the final word, Danny Barnes crossing, but they had already been beaten.
