DAN Spencer says it would be a massive achievement for Bicester to reach the Oxfordshire Cup final for the first time in 22 years.

The Southern Counties North side travel to holders Banbury tomorrow night, with a trip to Iffley Road on Thursday, April 18 up for grabs.

They last reached the final in 1997, beating Bulls 22-19.

Two-time winners Bicester will have their work cut out to replicate that result.

Banbury, who are third in South West 1 East – a level above their visitors – have dominated the competition in recent years and are bidding to be crowned county champions for a fourth successive season.

Bicester second row Spencer is under no illusions about the difficulty of the task in hand, but believes his side can cause an upset in the last-four tie.

He said: “It would be massive (to reach the final).

“It’s a local rivalry as it is and for it to be a semi-final is huge.

“They’re doing well, but we’re trying not to focus on the prize too much, just the performance.

“We’re quite confident in what we can achieve and we’re backing ourselves.”

Chinnor 2nd host Oxford Harlequins at Kingsey Road tonight in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, Oxfordshire opened their Jason Leonard Under 20 County Championship campaign with a 20-0 victory over Buckinghamshire.

Tom Burman (2), Evan Davies and Charlie Dominy crossed.
