FORMER Heineken Cup winner Dom Waldouck has been elected Oxford University's captain for 2018.

The 30-year-old was chosen as Conor Kearns's successor at the Iffley Road pavilion last night.

Waldouck signed a contract with Aviva Premiership side Newcastle Falcons last year which allowed him to study at Oxford and play in the Varsity Match.

But injury restricted his playing time and he started from the bench as the Dark Blues were beaten by Cambridge University in December.

Waldouck, who is studying for a masters in sustainable urban development at Kellogg College, has also played for Wasps, Northampton Saints and London Irish.

The former England Saxons international is still an important part of the Falcons squad, appearing in their defeat to Bath in the Anglo Welsh Cup at the end of last month.

Oxford's first match under Waldouck's captaincy is tomorrow night when they host Crawshays at Iffley Road (7.15).
