OXFORD Chargers were overhauled late in the meeting as Leicester Lion Cubs claimed a 51-39 victory.

The visitors led for most of the National Development League fixture, but their opponents edged ahead in heat 11 and never looked back.

Chargers had to win the final race to claim a point, only to suffer a 5-1 reverse to their second-placed hosts.

Joint team manager Jason Crump said: “It did drift away from us in the last races.

“A few of the boys weren’t comfortable with the track conditions.

“We missed out on heat winners. I did think, in the middle part of the meeting, there were a lot of 3-3 races where maybe we could have taken a 4-2 and that could have made the difference.”

Chargers were without Luke Killeen after the 17-year-old injured his leg at Redcar 24 hours earlier, with replacement Jody Scott – aged just 15 – scoring 7+2.

Jordan Jenkins led the way for the visitors with 11 points.

Chargers stay third in the table and host Leicester in their next clash on July 20.
