JOE Iaciofano’s penalty six minutes from time secured a draw for Oxford City at St Albans.

The forward scored from the spot after Jacob Bancroft was fouled to earn a point at another Vanarama National League South high-flier.

Third-place City wore black armbands in memory of Steve Fontaine, whose death was announced 24 hours earlier.

The visitors started well and Gatlin O’Donkor missed a golden chance midway through the half, putting the ball wide when Zac McEachran found him in the penalty area.

Iaciofano shot straight at Michael Johnson after 32 minutes, before beating the goalkeeper just before the break – only for Cameron Green to clear off the line.

St Albans’ Alex Lankshear should have put the hosts ahead between those two chances, but he cleared the crossbar from close range.

The home side opened the scoring four minutes into the second half when Shaun Jeffers found the net, with Ben Dudzinski making an excellent save to thwart Mitchell Weiss soon after.

It looked like City would leave with nothing, but Bancroft went down in the box late on and Iaciofano did the rest.

Meanwhile, Wantage Town’s home game against Waltham Abbey in Pitching In Southern League Division 1 Central was called off due to floodlight failure.

The visitors had already arrived at Alfredian Park when the fixture was postponed.
