OXFORD City Stars were edged out by Slough Jets in a roller coaster NIHL Division 1 South encounter.
Dean Birrell’s side were looking to end a three-match losing run and got off to the perfect start when Joe Edwards gave them the lead midway through the first period.
Slough turned the tables after the interval, scoring twice in four minutes – the second taking a big deflection on its way past Ross Miller.
Matt Lawday levelled things up from Edwards’ brilliant pass, only for the hosts to hit back.
Two more goals in quick succession came at the end of the second period, leaving Stars with work to do in the final 20 minutes.
Lawday added his second of the night to make it 4-3, but the visitors could not equalise as they stayed eighth in the table.
Stars are back at Oxpens on Sunday when they host MK Thunder (6.15pm).
