Oxford City picked up their first win in four Vanarama National League South games at the expense of Welling United, WRITES GEORGE RICKWOOD.

Joe Iaciofano scored the only goal as caretaker bosses Andy Ballard and Ross Jenkins got the Oxfordshire side back to winning ways after David Oldfield’s exit.

Welling, led by one-time England manager Peter Taylor, started better despite their lowly position.

Ben Dudzinski parried Dipo Akinyemi’s shot and Reece Fleet cleared, with hearts in mouths as the ball bounced around the penalty area.

Fleet saved City again when he blocked a certain goal after a pass was squared across the six-yard box.

City responded and Jacob Bancroft’s measured lob hit the bar and bounced down onto the line, before Iaciofano poked the ball past the goalkeeper and Arthur Penney got back to clear.

Welling’s Sabitiu-Amori Shokunbi then rattled the corner of the woodwork with a volley before half-time.

The only goal came early in the second half, Iaciofano taking down Nana Owusu’s cross and firing home.

City remained solid to close the game out, with a flurry of substitutions taking the sting out of the contest.

Banbury United lost their unbeaten home record in Pitching In Southern League Premier Central as Redditch United claimed a 2-1 win.

Dan Sweeney and Ryan Boothe scored either side of half-time for the visitors, with Jay Williams grabbing a consolation.

Banbury are still 13 points clear at the top.

North Leigh and Didcot Town conceded stoppage-time equalisers to draw 2-2 with AFC Dunstable and Kempston Rovers respectively in Division 1 Central.

Roger James and Jamar Smith struck twice for their sides.

Kidlington won 3-0 at Barton Rovers, Luke Stokoe, Billy Gillett and Ellis Hercules scoring.
