REECE Fleet was Oxford City’s hero for the second time in four days on a fiery afternoon in Vanarama National League South.

The midfielder’s 88th-minute lob sank ten-man Hungerford Town after David Oldfield and home boss Danny Robinson were sent off following a first-half melee.

It extended City’s unbeaten run to ten matches, as they climbed to second in the table.

Joe Iaciofano was denied by a goal-saving tackle midway through the first half, but it was far from the most significant moment before the break.

Hungerford forward Sol Wanjau-Smith lost control of the ball on the run and went in high on Canice Carroll, receiving a straight red card as a result.

More shocking were the dismissals of Oldfield and Robinson just before half-time.

Hungerford’s Callum Willmouth pushed Zico Asare over the advertising boards after the City defender’s momentum took him out of play, sparking furious scenes on the touchline.

Both benches got involved and the two managers were sent off.

There were more chances after the break, with Ben Dudzinski saving from George Smith and Luke Cairney keeping out a Josh Ashby header.

George Harmon then had an indirect free-kick cleared off the line after Hungerford were penalised for a backpass, before Fleet stole the show.

The ball fell loose after Harvey Bradbury’s shot was blocked and the City captain lofted an exquisite chip over the stranded Cairney.

Banbury United’s unbeaten start to the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central season is over.

The Puritans lost 2-1 at St Ives Town, with Morgan Roberts’ penalty past former loanee Mackenzie Chapman not enough to prevent a first defeat in 17 games.

Wantage Town were thrashed 9-1 at Ware in Division 1 Central, Shaquille Ishmael’s goal scant consolation.

Noah Alabi and George Jeacock scored inside the last ten minutes as Didcot Town won 2-1 at FC Romania, while Kidlington lost 3-2 at home to Biggleswade.

Elsewhere, North Leigh went down 2-0 at Welwyn Garden City and Thame United were beaten 3-0 by visitors Barton Rovers.
