Oxford City beat Tonbridge Angels 2-0 to pick up their third win in four Vanarama National League South games, WRITES GEORGE RICKWOOD.

George Harmon and Joe Iaciofano scored the goals in a professional display from the visitors, having both had efforts disallowed in the early exchanges.

It saw David Oldfield’s side climb to third in the table.

Canice Carroll had City’s best chance of the first half but produced a typical defensive midfielder’s finish, as Jonathan Henly saved with his legs.

Whatever Oldfield said at half-time worked like a charm, as the visitors came out of the blocks on fire.

Just two minutes into the second period, Iaciofano held up the ball and produced a clever back heel for the marauding Harmon to give Henly no chance.

Iaciofano, in particular, terrorised the Tonbridge defence, forcing Henly into a string of good saves.

He got his goal after a flowing move involving Zac McEachran and strike partner Elliot Benyon.

The latter found his teammate with a nice flick of the toe around a pressing defender and Iaciofano made no mistake for his sixth league goal this term.

City remained in control for the rest of the game, but were thankful for the offside flag when Ricky Modeste thought he had halved the deficit.

Jefferson Louis took four minutes to open his North Leigh account in a 3-2 win over Biggleswade.

The former Oxford United striker scored again later in the Pitching In Southern League Division 1 Central clash, with Roger James also on target.

It sent the Millers second in the table.

Kidlington lost 2-0 at FC Romania, while Chris Wreh’s early goal booked Banbury United’s place in the Buildbase FA Trophy first round at Corby Town’s expense.

The Puritans striker scored 11 minutes into the third qualifying round tie.

Thame United’s run in the competition ended with a 4-2 home defeat to Wimborne Town.
