GAVIN Whyte is expected to leave Oxford United in the next few days, head coach Karl Robinson has admitted.

The U's boss confirmed a formal bid had been received for the Northern Ireland international, understood to be from Cardiff City.

Talks are ongoing, with the winger likely to be heading to the Sky Bet Championship club early next week for a medical once personal terms are agreed.

"I expect him to leave," he said.

"The bid that we’ve had that we’ve still not 100 per cent accepted – and there’s still loads of things that can go right or wrong – is good.

"Everybody will want more, they will want a lot less. That’s where we’re at right now.

"People deserve to know what’s going on.

"Are we frustrated? I think you know we are, but it’s not time for anyone to be unhappy, it’s about us sticking together and trying to find players that make us a better team.

"Any team has to take criticism when your best player gets a bid.

"Things move forward very quickly, we know that. But it is hard."

A figure of £2million has been mentioned, although Robinson stressed it was above that figure when the add-ons are included.

It is well below the £4m price tag the United boss had wanted last month, but marks a big profit on the £100,000-outlay which brought him from Crusaders a year ago.

He said: "We've still got to haggle, but there are other things attached to the deal which make it very lucrative and a clever one moving forward.

"It's north of £2m with everything in, so that's a phenomenal turnover."
