CHRIS Cadden says his unusual transfer gives him “the best of both worlds”.

The Scotland international finally made his Oxford United debut last night, playing 70 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Fulham.

He had spent more than a fortnight training with the squad, but the final paperwork only came through yesterday afternoon.

It saw the 22-year-old, who was at Motherwell last season, join Columbus Crew, before the MLS side loaned him to the U’s.

Karl Robinson had been keen to sign the right back on a permanent basis, but lost out to the lure of a move across the Atlantic.

However, the chance to gain experience in England was also too good to turn down.

Cadden said: “I thought hard about it.

“America is a great opportunity for me and it will be good to see a different country, because I’ve never played outside Scotland.

“But Oxford gave me a chance to play in England, which I wanted to grab with both hands.

“It’s a real honour for me to play for this club.

“I guess it’s the best of both worlds.”

Robinson is hopeful 90 minutes in the final pre-season friendly at Solihull Moors on Saturday will be enough to get his new signing sharp for the start of the season.

He said: “I thought he showed everybody why we brought him in.

“I really like powerful full backs who get forward. He’s got an unbelievable engine.”
