TONY McMahon could still have a future at Oxford United, head coach Karl Robinson has revealed after naming him in his squad this evening.
The 33-year-old has looked certain to leave all summer, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Scunthorpe United.
In May the U’s boss felt a move back up north closer to home was best for all parties and reiterated after Sunday’s friendly defeat to Rangers the position had not changed.
But there has been a significant shift of the landscape this week.
McMahon, who has a year left on the contract he signed last summer, returned to the training ground and indicated a desire to battle for a place at United.
Robinson said: “Over 24 hours, football is an amazing thing.
“He wants to come in and train to fight for a position, so OK. We’ll see what happens.
“We don’t need to off-load anybody, we’re in a great position."
McMahon trained yesterday and is due to feature against Thame United tonight.
