OXFORD United defender Curtis Nelson is reportedly on the verge of signing for Cardiff City.

According to the Daily Mail, the Bluebirds, relegated from the Premier League last season, have agreed a deal to sign the 26-year-old despite interest from Sunderland.

Nelson, whose United contract expires at the end of this month, would join Cardiff on a free transfer.

The news comes just days after U’s boss Karl Robinson said he did not foresee the centre back, who has made clear his aim to play in the Sky Bet Championship, staying with the club.

Nelson joined United on a three-year deal from Plymouth Argyle in 2016, scoring eight goals in 121 appearances.
