CAMERON Brannagan said the Oxford United dressing room was slightly downcast after Saturday’s result, because they felt they deserved so much more.

The U’s were dominant for most of the game against play-off chasing Doncaster Rovers, but had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Two goals wrongly disallowed by the officials added to their frustration, but Brannagan said their display provided plenty of positives.

“We are frustrated we didn’t win,” he said.

“I felt we were the better side throughout today and deserved more.”

He added: “We believe in ourselves here.

“Doncaster are fighting to get promoted and I thought we were by far the better team which says a lot for us.”

Brannagan was presented with the players’ player of the year trophy before kick-off.

And the 22-year-old was delighted to be chosen by his teammates for the honour.

“I’m buzzing,” he said. “I have really enjoyed being involved so much this season.

“I have learned a lot. I have grown more as a man.

“The gaffer has helped me a lot too because it has been tough at times, but we got through it.

“I am happy to take responsibility on the pitch and want to lead by example.”

He added: “The fans have been great all season too.

“There have been some tough times, but you go to places like Rochdale away on a Tuesday night and they are there in their numbers which is just great for us to see.”
