OXFORD United’s under 23s will visit Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight still in with a chance of qualifying from their Premier League Cup group.

Chris Allen’s side boosted their prospects of reaching the last-16 thanks to a 3-0 home win over Hull City last week.

Their campaign finishes at Molineux, where victory should be enough to put United through.

The visitors will start as underdogs, but considering the side are in their debut season, Allen felt the players deserve plenty of credit to still be in the mix.

He said: “It’s the Premier League Cup, so you’re going to have some really good sides in there and we were up for that.

“The lads have stepped up and made a really good fist of it.

“To have given themselves a shout of going through with one game to go is a great achievement for the lads.

“Wolves will have people on the bench who have England (youth) caps, so it will be tough.

“We’ll have to dig in and we won’t have as much of the ball, but that’s another learning curve for them.

“There’s some great talent here. The youth team have won their league and got to a great round in the FA Youth Cup.

“A lot of them have been playing in this competition, it’s a learning curve but they’ve got a great future as long as they’re willing to listen, learn and apply themselves.”
