JAMIE Mackie has warned Oxford United they cannot expect to avoid relegation if their wait for a first away win goes on.

The U’s visit Accrington Stanley tonight looking to improve on a record which has seen them draw ten and lose five games on the road in Sky Bet League One.

Mackie points to strong performances on their travels for much of the campaign as evidence the squad does not have a mental block.

But the veteran forward also knows United, who are in the drop zone on goal difference, simply must find a way to get over the line if they want to get out of trouble.

He said: “If we were losing 3-0 away from home every week we would obviously not be setting up right, but that’s not the case.

“We’ve drawn against good sides which in isolation would be good results, however points aren’t that good because you don’t really sneak up the table.

“We will pick up wins away from home this season.

“(But) the nature of it being mid-February and we’re in the bottom four, the facts of the matter are we have to win or we’re going to get relegated.

“That shouldn’t be a shock to anybody, we have to win games.

“It’s too much pressure on your home form if you can’t get anything away from home.

“We have to win some games away from home.

“I’m not sat here thinking ‘there’s no chance that’s going to happen’.

“I believe it will happen.”
