A TWEET which warned Oxford United to prepare for a relegation battle in the wake of Pep Clotet’s dismissal was sent “by complete mistake” according to the company which runs the account.

Premier Global Sports Management Ltd., who are registered with the Football Association, represent players’ interests.

Their clients include U’s striker James Roberts, on loan at Guiseley until the end of the season.

Yesterday they responded to Pep Clotet’s first public comment since being sacked as United manager on Monday, in which the Spaniard used Twitter to thank the club, the players and the supporters.

Having copied the post, @Premier_Global_ sent a tweet, subsequently deleted, which read: “A great guy who gave his all to Oxford United and would have brought good times to the club if allowed to.

“Oxford United now need to get ready for a relegation battle with that idiot running the team now.

“League 2 footbsll [sic] next season !!!!”

After being contacted for an explanation, the Oxford Mail received the following reply: “This tweet was posted by complete mistake as our company has a new member of staff who will be solely dealing with the social media side of our company and was today experiencing the company Twitter account to learn all the tasks needed of him when he pressed the post button instead of deleting the text.

“Once the text had been posted the young lad due to his inexperience did not know how to if at all possible to delete the post where another member of staff assisted and deleted it at the earliest opportunity as you have confirmed.

“I hope this clarification now explains our company side of events and that this incident is now closed.”

While the post was removed, other tweets which question the decision to dismiss Clotet remain.

Oxford United did not wish to comment.
