Dave Sawyer clanged off a 16-doll haul including two sixers as George stayed firmly in the hunt for the Premier Section title with a 3-0 win at leaders Cricketers, writes ANDY BEAL.
The victory cut Cricketers' lead at the top to just a point and means the destiny of the crown will go down to the final week.
Needing a win to stay in the title hunt, second-placed George got off to a flier, taking the opening leg 33-29.
And after winning the next 30-25, George were set a challenging total of 30. However, that proved no obstacle as they wrapped up the final leg 33-30.
Sawyer was ably assisted by Francis Hillier who hit a sixer in his 14-doll haul. Philip Adams was top dog for Cricketers with 15.
The race for the Section 2 title is even tighter with Royal Sun and Seacourt Bridge locked at the top after both recorded 3-0 successes.
Sun defeated Plough 18-13, 20-15, 22-19, while Seacourt beat Gardener's Arms 3-0 with a score of 25-17, 22-20, 19-17.
Tiddington Cricket Club kept their Section 3 title ambitions alive with a 3-0 away win at New Club Wheatley.
They won the first leg on a three-stick shoot-out after the teams were tied at 17-17.
After taking the second leg 19-15, Tiddington won the final leg by the odd doll 19-18.
Mick Lane top scored with 11.
In Section 4, Red Lion Brill's John Chapman clanged off 14 dolls as they beat Democrats club 2-1.
With the game nicely-poised, Lion anchorman Martin Bailey left it to his last two sticks to snatch the leg 19-18.
North Oxford Con club lead Section 5 by one point after beating Lord Kitchener 2-1.
They started of well taking the first leg 19-14 and were then set 15 in the second leg.
After a slow start, they recovered well, leaving anchor man Mick Rowe to whip off the three dolls needed to win the leg 16-15. Kitchener won the final leg 23-20.
Glyn Millard smashed 15 to steer Fairview to a 2-1 win over Golden Ball B. The leg scores were 22-16, 18-20, 18-16.
It's all square at the top of Section 6 as White House and Donnington Social Club both recorded wins.
White House beat Black Horse 2-1. They lost opening leg 11-18, before winning the next two 18-12, 17-11.
Donnington cruised to a 3-0 win against Nut Tree in a scoreline of 17-15, 20-10, 20-17.
Plough lifted the Section 7 crown after a 2-1 win against Brill Sports Club B.
