Oxford City & County’s Katherine Hawes helped England to wins against Jersey and Wales in the British Isles Women’s International Series at Bangor, Northern Ireland.

Playing at No 2 in Ellen Falkner’s rink, Hawes featured in a 21-10 victory as England defeated Jersey 139-82, and a 22-17 win in the 120-102 triumph over Wales.

It saw England finish third in the table – after they lost their opening two games against Ireland and Scotland, who retained the title.

Despite losing 129-108 to Scotland, Falkner’s side featuring Hawes won 18-17, but lost 25-18 in the 117-110 defeat against Ireland.

Banbury Central’s Carole Galletly also played in Falkner’s rink against Ireland.

OXFORDSHIRE Ladies raced to a 132-88 win against Buckinghamshire in the Johns Trophy at Iver Heath.

However, Oxon’s hopes of qualifying from Group 2B South came to an end as leaders Surrey edged past Sussex 114-109.

Oxon won on five of the six rinks to claim a 20-2 victory on points, with Pat Ostler’s four of Margaret Bullock, Sylvia Rogers and Angela Ives providing the biggest success with a 31-7 drubbing of Ruth Drage. OXFORDSHIRE Ladies defeated Berkshire 46-16 in the Walker Cup Inter County Double Rink competition at Banbury Chestnuts to qualify for the regional finals.

Gail Gilkes, Katherine Hawes, Jeanette Berry and Carole Galletly swept aside Lillian Holliday 23-7, while Caroline Campion, Donna Knight, Pat Ostler and Sue Mayo defeated Bev Wall 23-9 to put Oxon through to the regional final on July 15.

Oxfordshire 46, Berkshire 16 (Oxon skips first): C Campion 23, B Wall 9; G Gilkes 23, L Holliday 7.

OXFORD City & County’s Donna Knight and Katherine Hawes, plus Banbury Central’s Caroline Campion and Carole Galletly, have won through to represent Oxfordshire in the National Pairs Championships at Leamington on August 2.

They booked their places by reaching the county final.

Knight and Hawes cruised past Banbury Chestnuts’ Pat Taylor and Christine Purnell 27-10 in the semi-finals, while Campion and Galletly squeezed past City & County’s Jeanette Berry and Sue Mayo 18-16.
