WITNEY Town have been relegated from Division 1 of the Oxford & District League.

Their 6-0 defeat at the hands of local rivals Carterton, coupled with other results going against them, condemns Witney to the drop with three weeks of the season still remaining.

Watlington’s 4½-1½ success over fellow strugglers Witney Mills moves them six points clear of their rivals, with both teams having just two more matches to play.

West Witney beat Headington A 5-1, with Shane Cooper’s rink taking five shots in the last two ends, including a three in the final leg of the match, to snatch a 17-16 victory in a close game with Howard Watts’ rink.

In Division 2, City & County are on the brink of an immediate return to the top flight.

A 5½-½ success over Charlbury means they can still mathematically be caught by Adderbury and South Oxford – but still boast a commanding advantage over their rivals.

Adderbury beat Chipping Norton 5-1, Keith Field’s rink securing the losers’ sole point by taking three shots in the final two ends.

Kidlington saw off Headington B 4-2 in the other match.

Bicester can clinch promotion out of Division 3 this week.

Their 5-1 win over Hanborough means a victory over Thame will see Bicester reach Division 2.

The defeat saw Hanborough fall to bottom of the table, but still with a chance of avoiding the drop.

Any two, of four, clubs could still be promoted from Division 4.

Woodstock could have all but ensured one of those spots, but were stunned 5½-½ by Blackbird Leys.

City & County B maintained their fine form, beating West Oxford 5-1, while Burford thrashed Oxford University Press 6-0.
