ANNE Borrowdale’s efforts have been recognised with a national award.

The Oxford & District League’s development officer scooped the volunteer of the year accolade at the Pride of Table Tennis ceremony.

Borrowdale devotes countless hours of organising, coaching and development work to the sport.

She has helped 12 people become newly qualified coaches and played a part in increasing participation in table tennis in the Cowley area, specifically beginners aged over 55.

The latter included open sessions and coaching, as well as a summer league for all abilities.

John Duncalfe, chairman of the Oxford and District Table Tennis Association, said: “Anne’s work has culminated in the formation of a new club – the Oxford Community Table Tennis Club.

“It will operate in Cowley and Headington and will cater primarily for social play, but will give the opportunity for those who want it, to play competitively.

“Anne is a worthy winner of the award.”
