SHANE Turner hit two maximums as Section 1 side Croft Bar hit back from 3-1 down to beat Premier side Democrats 6-3 in the Cowley Workers ODDA League.

The visiting Democrats took charge with wins from Rob Adnams, Adam Bowman and Lennon Craddock.

Mark Laverack got Croft on the board, before Turner and Rob Thorne notched to ensure the singles were shared and the hosts swept the pairs to complete the comeback.

Carterton Social Club remain unbeaten in the top flight, but Section 1’s Waggon & Horses put up a strong challenge.

Playing the pairs first, the underdogs took a 2-1 lead.

Tom Baughan (180), Ian Moss and Michael Kearns (180) provided an impressive response for the home side.

Simon Key kept Waggon & Horses in the contest, but Simon Pearce and Ade Larner snuffed out any hope of an upset to secure a 6-3 success.

Gary Shorter’s 135 out-shot was in vain for Bullnose Morris in Section 3.

His feat, the highest of the week, helped the visitors take a 4-2 lead after the singles at TJ’s Club D.

Mark Wheeler, Steve Jones and Colin Hinton were also on target for the Bullnose.

But TJ’s, whose wins had come from Carl Pitson and Michael Slatter, won all three pairs matches to pinch a 5-4 victory.

Blackbird Leys Bowls Club staged an even more dramatic comeback in Section 2 of the Ladies’ competition.

Doris Mundy, Carol Cox and Olly Butler put hosts Donnington Community Centre A 3-0 up.

But the Bowls Club replied through Nicola Merrett, Emma Baldwin and Rachel Phipps, before taking the pairs 2-1 to secure a 5-4 win.
