CHRISTIAN Mitchell produced the best performance of his career at the Surrey Under 17 Gold tournament in Guildford.
Playing in the Gold Star event – the highest level of junior domestic badminton contested by the top 16-ranked players in the country – the Woodstock teenager reached his first singles final.
However, he had to settle for a silver medal after losing to Toby Leung (Devon) 21-18, 21-14.
Nonetheless, his achievement should not be overlooked, only a handful of Oxfordshire players have medalled in a Gold Star singles event for more than a decade.
Another county player to reach a tournament final was Adam Burden, who won gold in the boys doubles event at the Hampshire Under 15 Bronze tournament played in Winchester.
Also in the medals at that tournament was Matt Dunn who won bronze in the singles.
