OXFORD’S Mark Trafford became world champion for a second time, when he beat former winner Kevin Tunstall in the final in Jersey, writes PETE EWINS.
The Oracle player, who is No 1 in the Oxford & District League, rattled up a score of 20,810 against Sussex-based Tunstall, who won the first of three titles in 2006, when he played in Wallingford.
Trafford, who won his first crown in 2013, defeated Geoff Pitt (Berks) 9,650-4,240 to reach the last 16, before seeing off Geoff Jukes (Worthing) 11,330-9,040.
He hit top form in his quarter-final, where he defeated defending champion Matthew Jones (Bucks) 17,220-14,350, thanks to a break of 16,580.
The semi-final saw Trafford register 22,910 against Dave Ingram (Sussex), before repeating the feat against Tunstall to take the title.
Oxford’s Pauline Withey finished runner-up in the All-England Ladies Individual Championship, but won the top break award with 5,360.
