OXFORD City Stars have re-signed Mike Whillock for next season.

The 28-year-old forward is the latest familiar face to agree terms ahead of the much-anticipated return of competitive ice hockey to Oxpens.

Stars hope to be back playing in front of crowds in NIHL Division One South again in September.

And Whillock believes Dean Birrell's side can return with plenty of belief.

He said: "I've missed Sunday nights at Oxpens and I can't wait to lace up and go again with the boys. It has been far too long.

"It sounds like we are putting together a very competitive squad this year and Dean comes highly recommended by everyone.

"I have lots of confidence that we will be a tough team to play against this year."

Whillock scored 18 goals and claimed 13 assists in 2019/20, before the season was halted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Birrell added: "Mike is a powerful player, with a high work rate and he puts up good numbers.

"He is an important part of the squad and we are pleased he has committed to the club again."

Whillock is the eighth player to re-sign for Stars, while former Bracknell Hornets captain Chris Cooke has arrived.
