OXFORD City Stars head coach Kenny Redmond has called for huge support as they attempt to become England National League Division 2 champions tomorrow.

Stars, who clinched the South Division 2 title a fortnight ago, take on the top North Division 2 side Sutton Sting, from Nottinghamshire, in the championship game at Coventy, face-off 1pm.

Before then, they will complete their league programme away to Solent Devils tonight (5).

On the title run-in, Stars were playing to sell-out crowds at Oxpens, and Redmond would welcome fans coming to support them tomorrow.

He said: “The championship game is a big occasion for the club and for Oxfordshire as a whole.

“Everyone enjoyed the moment when we won the league at home.

“We want more nights like that, but it takes big performances and we need to be on top of our game.

“This is what we all strive for and it’s all about winning trophies.

“The supporters make a big difference and really spur the team on.

“We’re probably at a disadvantage because we have got to go down to Solent the day before.

“It’s not ideal and the league need to look at how the structure things, but we have a good squad and we will handle it.”

Netminders Milan Ronai and Mark Duffy face late fitness tests today, but the rest of the squad is available.

Stars have a chance to land the treble if they win tomorrow, as they are also in the South Division play-offs later this month.

Captain Darren Elliott said: “The national title is a big match.

“We have a lot of experience in the squad and have worked hard to get to this opportunity.

“But it’s important we focus on the Solent game first.”

Tickets for tomorrow’s game can be purchased on the day at Coventry Ice Rink.
