OXFORD City Stars ope-ned their league campaign with convincing wins over Guildford Phoenix and Bristol Pitbulls.

The victories see Kenny Redmond’s side sit second on goals scored after the first weekend of matches in NIHL South 2.

Stars began with a 7-1 win at new boys Guildford on Saturday, before beating Pitbulls 7-2 at Oxpens a day later to complete a perfect weekend.

Against Phoenix, the visitors took a 2-0 lead inside three minutes, when Kamil Kinkor and Joe Edwards scored – the latter netting his 100th goal for the club on the powerplay.

It was 3-0 by the end of the first period as Connor Redmond struck.

Kinkor added his second and Stars’ fourth, before two goals within a minute made it 6-0 in the third.

Matt Lawday was on target, with Josh Oliver also on the scoresheet.

Stars’ Dax Hedges was handed a roughing penalty and Guildford hit a consolation through Jack Woodstock.

But just six seconds later it was 7-1, Redmond scoring his second to wrap up victory.

On Sunday, it took Stars until the 20-minute mark to break the deadlock.

Josh Florey, Edwards and Michael Whillock all had chances, while Kinkor hit a post.

Eventually, Stars took the lead as Edwards found the net.

And it was 2-0 before the end of the first period, with Kinkor on target.

Darren Elliott added a third and Edwards hit No 4.

The floodgates had opened and a Whillock double made it 6-0.

Pitbulls netted in the third period, when Adrian Smith scored and they grabbed another as Jamie Newton fired home.

Stars immediately called a time-out, hitting back on the powerplay through Alex Staples as Sam Shone served a penalty for Bristol.

There were no further goals, but both sides were hit with roughing penalties.
