Michael Younie pipped clubmate Joe Richardson to win the Buildbase Frilford Heath Junior Gold Medal.

The contest, played on Frilford’s Blue and Red Courses, went down to the 36th hole, with Younie claiming victory at his home club by one shot.

Younie carded a superb seven-under-par total of 138 to edge out Richardson by one stroke.

Having beaten his dad, Paul, to Frilford’s club championship by one shot last month, Richardson could not quite repeat his triumph this time around.

Frilford members also provided the first two places in the handicap competition, with Josh Davies carding 134 to hold off Jack Hemmings on 135.

Josh Reed (Minchinhampton) carded the best morning round with an impressive two-under-par 70 on the Blue Course.

Jordan Garnish (The Oxfordshire) won that accolade in the afternoon on the Red Course with a solid level-par round of 73.

Jake Dines (Hinksey Heights) had the best nett round in the morning with 66 and Oliver Viney (Frilford Heath) took the afternoon prize with 65.

  • HOME Comforts took the honours in Five Star Events’ Richard Pineo Shield at Frilford Heath.

The team of captain Clive Alcock, Simon Alcock, Barrie Hunt and Andy King finished fIrst with 90 points.

Frilford captain Bill Simpson’s team, which also included professional Tom Fleming, Paul Smith and Jeremy Rossitter, were second on 88, pipping Peter Dier’s Frilford Four on countback.

Jim Elkins’s Studley Wood team won the yellow ball prize, while Graham Hobbins, David Smith, Barry Yates and Richard Green claimed nearest the pin prizes.

  • JACOB Mason was presented with free membership of Hadden Hill’s par three course during their August free coaching and promotion month.

The 13-year-old, from Wallingford, received the prize from Hadden Hill professionals Ian Mitchell and Steve Laidler.
