OXFORDSHIRE Under 18s fought back superbly to win the South West Counties Youth Championship final.

Trailing 2-0 to Cornwall at St Blazey AFC, the prospects looked bleak.

But a stirring second-half display saw them stun their hosts and record a famous victory.

This started badly when Cornwall took the lead after just six minutes with a header that gave Matthew Crowther no chance.

An end-to-end game saw both sides play attractive football, but on 35 minutes Oxon fell further behind when a misplaced pass allowed the hosts to score from ten yards and make it 2-0.

Oxfordshire switched to a more attacking formation and reduced the deficit on 61 minutes – moments after Cornwall had hit a post – when Henry Landers netted from close range after good approach play by Dan Collins.

The equalised five minutes later when a pass over the top was slotted home from 15 yards by Tobias London.

And on 69 minutes Oxon took the lead after Landers returned the favour for Collins to slot home.

Cornwall pushed forward, but could not find an equaliser as Oxfordshire, coached by Rob Tutton and Paul Mulvany, held on.

With this game being the last county representative match because of financial constraints, Oxon are considered as a

top-four team in the country.
