Goalkeeper Harry Jenkins was the hero for Barton United as they lifted the Oxfordshire Sam Waters Sunday Cup with victory over Chinnor Exiles in the final at Oxford City.

Jenkins saved four penalties out of six during a tense shoot-out, before slotting home the winning spot-kick himself to give his side a 3-2 victory on penalties, following a 1-1 draw after extra time.

Barton had the better of the first half and hit the bar in the early stages, but were unable to break the deadlock.

And they were made to pay shortly after the break when Exiles took the lead as Bobby Smith’s cross was deflected in by a Barton defender.

Jamie McCuaig equalised in spectacular fashion on 70 minutes, volleying into the top corner from outside the area.

Chinnor could have won it in extra time, with Jon Ayres denied a dramatic winner by the crossbar as the game ticked ever closer to a penalty shoot-out.

Jenkins and Chinnor keeper Ben Taunton were on top form during a nervy shoot-out, with the latter saving twice and seeing another Barton effort blazed over the bar.

But he was unable to match Jenkins’ heroics as the Barton keeper saved four times before going on to seal a memorable victory for his side by scoring the winning penalty.
