John Ramsey was the star as Hagbourne United caused an upset in the first round of the North Berks Cup.

Ramsey scored a hat-trick as the Division 3 side recorded a 3-0 win away to Division 2 opponents Benson Lions.

Also defeating higher league opposition were Division 2 side Ardington & Lockinge, who scraped past Didcot Casuals, from Divison 1, 4-3.

Adam Hogan, Chris Hunt, Jamie Clarke and John Baines scored for Ardington, with Fletcher Hoey and Lee Fuller among the goals for Didcot.

Holders Berinsfield won 2-0 against Division 1 side AFC Wallingford with strikes from Simon Kenny and Brian Rawlings.

Dorchester, making their bow in the league, went down 2-0 at fellow Division 3 side Coleshill United, who scored through Shane Blake and Peter Soame.

In an eventful all-Division 3 clash, Blewbury beat Stanford in the Vale 4-3, both sides being reduced to ten men by sendings-off in injury time.

Stanford scored through Brian Ferris, Steve Holder and Andy Farrell.

But Blewbury won it with a first-half goal from Paul Hessey and a penalty apiece from Luke Morley, Dan Owen and Aaron Gray in the second half.

Charles Jamieson (Blewbury) and Stanford keeper Dan Brearly were the players dismissed.

Tom Halliday and Pete Ashman had twice given Benson AFC the lead in the all-Division 1 clash against Faringdon only for Richard Evans and Lavel King to equalise.

Luke Bennett put Faringdon in front, but Ryan Stewart ensured extra time, where he hit the winner in a 4-3 success.

Wootton & Dry Sandford won 5-1 at Harwell Village with Damien Dodds, George Cassidy, Tom Srawley, Josh Nicholls and Andrew Potter on target.

Brendan Morris replied for Harwell.

Crowmarsh Gifford were made to work for a 3-2 win at Sutton Courtenay.

Liam Strudwick, Andy Allen and Phil Hedges scored their goals, with Sutton replying through Mark Druce’s double.

Drayton won 3-0 at home to Steventon with Gareth Small, Adam French and Ashley Seamark all scoring.

Harwell International dispatched Division 4 East side Radley United 4-0 via a Steve Molloy double and a goal apiece from Tom McGregor and Kris Gray.

Grove Rangers’ return to the league was best forgotten as they crashed 8-0 at Saxton Rovers for whom Frankie Haines hit a hat-trick, alongside goals by Mickey Weir, Kyle Allsworth, Martin Young, Lydon Szabo and a penalty by goalkeeper Darren Spades on his 30th birthday.
