OXFORD City booked their place in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final when beating North Leigh in a seven-goal thriller at Banbury United last night.

Kabongo Tshimanga, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Bobson Bawling and Reece Fleet scored in a 4-3 victory.

Despite trailing 4-1 with 16 minutes to go, North Leigh launched a late effort to get back into the tie, but it proved too late.

City will now face Banbury United, who beat Ardley United last month, in the final at Court Place Farm on Tuesday, April 30.

The Vanarama National League South hosts took the lead after just three minutes when Tshimanga glided past his marker and fired home at the near post.

City’s Josh Ashby then went close with a free-kick, his effort narrowly going over.

The North Leigh woodwork was left shaking on 24 minutes as Thomas-Asante found space on the edge of the box before drilling an effort against the bar.

The striker had another opportunity before the break, but he was denied by goalkeeper Eddie Cavanagh.

North Leigh’s goal continued to live a charmed life at the start of the second period as Bawling hit a post after Jack Self’s effort had been blocked by Dec Peart.

City finally doubled their lead on 50 minutes, though, as Eddie Jones’s cross caused a mix-up in the Millers defence and Thomas-Asante was on hand to prod home.

The hosts continued to dominate and made it 3-0 in the 65th minute when Bawling cut inside and fired an effort on goal which cannoned in off Cavanagh’s leg.

City were out of sight, but the Evo-Stik South League visitors pulled a goal back on 71 minutes when George Seacole pounced on a mistake from goalkeeper Steven Caro.

However, the hosts quickly re-established their three-goal lead when substitute Fleet fired home following good work from Kyran Wiltshire on 74 minutes.

Thomas-Asante was denied a second by the offside flag as City looked to add to their tally.

But the Millers dug deep to set up a nervy finish.

Seacole brilliantly found substitute Tyriq Hunte, who scored from close range with ten minutes to go, before Bradley Singh’s deflected injury-time effort beat Caro to make it 4-3.

However, they were unable to force extra-time as City’s earlier dominance proved enough.
