DIDCOT Town failed to make the most on their rivals’ lack of action when losing 3-2 at Bedford Town on Saturday.

Andy Ballard’s side remain fourth in the Evo-Stik South League Division 1 Central table, but have now suffered back-to-back defeats.

With most other scheduled matches falling to the weather, this presented a great opportunity for the Railwaymen to cement their position in the top five.

However, they were not able to take advantage.

The hosts went ahead on nine minutes when Jermaine Osei’s shot beat everyone to find the corner of the net.

Didcot fought back though and levelled on 26 minutes when Luke Carnell rose highest to head home a corner.

Callum McNish was then inches away from putting the visitors ahead, his piledriver just pushed over the bar.

But Didcot fell behind just 40 seconds into the second half, Lucas Kirkpatrick firing home from 20 yards after a corner was not cleared.

Leigh Bedwell then made two good saves to keep the visitors in the game.

But he was powerless to stop Bedford from going 3-1 ahead when Joe Steele rose to nod in Callum Donnelly’s cross.

Didcot were given late hope when John Dennis netted five minutes from time.

But they could not find an equaliser.

THE other scheduled non-league matches involving Oxfordshire teams were all postponed at the weekend due to the snow.
